solidarity with the ukranian people
We stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine to seek the path of peace and justice We are saddened at the escalation of conflict, dispossession and aggression in Ukraine and the suffering this is causing for millions of people who have been forced to flee their homes leaving behind jobs, belongings, livelihoods and loved ones.
We are proud to be part of a neighbourhood here in Hackney that has a history and connection to the Ukrainian people through the Charedi Orthodox Jewish community, which grew rapidly with new arrivals fleeing the horrors of the Second World War. Also, more recently, our neighbours from Eastern Europe, including Ukraine, who have made Hackney their home and community. We are part of a borough here in Hackney that has always supported and welcomed refugees, wherever in the world they have been forced to leave.
We stand with the millions of Ukrainian people defending their freedom and rights and we hope for wisdom and compassion from our leaders in forging a better future for all involved in this terrible conflict.
